Costs and Logistics
SID provides training and field orientation, full-time field support, accommodation (usually shared rooms), team meals at home, and local transport. We cover the cost of living and field support through program fees, which we keep as low as possible. We believe we are the most affordable international volunteer program around. If not – let us know!
Program costs for Project Managers are between $135 CAD and $150 CAD per week. Final costs will be set out in an applicant’s Letter of Invitation.
Program costs for Global Health Interns are $1,500 for up to ten weeks.
Costs may vary slightly by site, project, duration, and with exchange rate fluctuations.
Additional costs to be covered by members include:
- International airfares and possible in-country airfare or bus fare
- Passport and visa costs
- Travel insurance
- Medication (e.g., malaria prophylaxis)
- Tourism and personal items
- Personal airtime and personal internet use
Each year, our project teams raise tens of thousands of dollars by soliciting donations, organizing events, mobilizing schools and other organizations, applying for grants, and running social enterprises. Your commitment to raising funds for your project is essential to its success.
Everyone, regardless of their project, must commit to raising at least $1,000 CAD to support the budget of their charitable project or partner organization. These funds do not go to SID! They go to registered charities in Canada or the United States with whom we have partnered. Donations through these charities are tax-deductible for North American taxpayers.
SID is a not-for-profit organisation. By law, all of its revenues are spent to strengthen its programs and projects.
